Grade 1 Locks

Grade 1 Locks are the best locks, they are usually for Commerical doors, but can be used for Residential doors. It is made with strong material and can last a long time. They are several types of Grade 1 locks, regular pin lock to high security locks.

Your high security locks are the best when it comes to your security, the locks cannot be picked, bumped, and they are drill resistant. Keys cannot be copied without your ID and a Key Card that comes with the lock.

Grade 2 Locks

Grade 2 Locks are a Residential and Commerical lock. They cost a little more than a Grade 3, they last longer, made with better materials. You can see and feel the difference.

Grade 3 Locks

Warning about Smart Key Locks

These Locks with the notch on the left side of the keyway has a very high fail rate, meaning the key will stop working. Especially if you make copies of the key, most likely it will not work. These locks have little flanges inside that bends easily, and the original key will not work. I have replaced many of these locks because of that reason.

Also If by chance you lock yourself out, these locks has to be destroyed to get in. Below is a Smart Key Lock.

Understanding Door Lock Grades:

ANSI/ BHMA (Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association) Grading System is accredited by the America National Standards Institute (ANSI), a private non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the voluntary standardization to develop and maintain performance standards for builder's hardware. ANSI/BHMA standards set forth different product grades for door hardware products. These product grades are defined by progressive levels of performance benchmarks in each applicable standard. The purpose of each is to help identify the quality and durability of locksets through a series of operational and security tests.

You can read more about this at https://www.ansi.org/.

Below are Examples of Door Locks:

Grade 3 Locks are the most common locks for Residential doors. They are good locks made with lower end material. They are the lowest price locks when you are on a budget.
